Demetrius Klein is a celebrated choreographer whose awards include the Hector Ubertalli Award for Artistic Excellence, a Choreographic Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and several grants from the MacArthur Foundation. The Demetrius Klein Dance Company has been a staple of the regional arts scene — and South Florida’s oldest modern dance company — since 1986.
AMY MCCARTHY MORALES
Amy McCarthy Morales is the Executive Director of DKDC/DIY Projects. Possibly the only dancer in the company without a fine-arts degree, Amy has had the opportunity to dance at Florida State University, ODC/San Francisco, and the Alvin Ailey Extension. In her other lives, she claims the title of Maven, professional guardian, mother, wife, and all-around keeper-of-things-moving. Amy has been in the room with DKDC since 1989.
Kori Epps serves as Associate Artistic Director of DKDC/DIY Projects, dances, mothers two little boys, and regularly does all three at once. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Kori co-founded See Change Dance, a group that facilitates open invitations for dance improvisation. She specializes in integrating movement and dance into elementary education and teaches creative movement for preschoolers. Kori has been in the room with DKDC since 2000.
Gaynelle Gosselin is a movement specialist who currently teaches in both the Theatre and Dance Departments at Palm Beach Atlantic University. She was a teaching artist for the School District of Palm Beach County from 2009-2014. Gaynelle is a certified teaching member of Alexander Technique International. Gaynelle co-founded See Change Dance, a group dedicated to creative process and dance improvisation. The group builds improvisation scores for performance and hosts regular meet ups for anyone who wishes to explore the creative impulse through dance improvisation. Gaynelle has been in the room with DKDC since 2000.
Sarah-Elizabeth Hollywood began dancing at age 7 with Ballet Florida and Klein Dance. She attended U.B. Kinsey Elementary School of the Arts as a Dance Major and Bak Middle School of the Arts as a Dance Major. In 2010 she became a Soloist with The Willis Ballet after just 3 months and toured with The St. Petersburg Classic Ballet Theater of Marina Medvetskaya. Sarah now performs with DKDC/DIY Projects, Downtown Dance, and AGWA. Sarah has been in the room with DKDC since 1997.
Jessica is a multidisciplinary instructor with a background in modern dance, special needs education, and Ashtanga yoga. After studying at Klein Dance Summer Intensives, New World School of the Arts, and Florida International University, she began dancing with Demetrius Klein Dance Company. Jessica also performs with TOC Project. She works closely with New Light Theater teaching dance and yoga to children at Dade County homeless shelters and public schools. She is a proud mother of two beautiful daughters who inspire her every moment of every day. Jessica has been in the room with DKDC since 1994.
Kristen Vencel is a pastor's wife and homeschooling mother of four who earned her BA in dance at Palm Beach Atlantic University, where she began to grow into the artist she is today. She has enjoyed cross-cultural studies in dance internationally and partners with her brother and filmmaker, Jon Rhoads, on dance film projects. Dance is a part of her expression, her worship, and the depths of who she was made to be. Kristen has been in the room with DKDC since 2000.
